Patricia A. Ellis is a partner in the Los Angeles office of Meserve, Mumper & Hughes LLP and a member of the Management Committee. Ms. Ellis has been in practice with the firm since 1987. She is a member of the California State Bar and is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Central, Eastern, Northern and Southern Districts of California, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth, Ninth and Eleventh Circuits, as well as the United States Supreme Court.
Ms. Ellis specializes in representing employers in the litigation of employment related matters arising under state and federal employment statutes (Title VII, FEHA, ADEA, ADA, ERISA), as well as the defense of common-law and statutory employment lawsuits for breach of contract, wrongful termination, defamation, invasion of privacy, sexual harassment, and other employment related torts. In addition, Ms. Ellis counsels management on litigation avoidance and day-to-day labor and human resource problems, including the implementation and review of contracts of employment and personnel policies to ensure compliance with existing wage and hour, labor and anti-discrimination laws.
Ms. Ellis has significant civil trial experience and she has arbitrated matters before private judicial arbitrators and mediators. She has also argued matters before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth and Eleventh Circuits. In addition, Ms. Ellis is a court-appointed mediator for the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles.
Ms. Ellis is a 1987 graduate of Southwestern University School of Law. In addition to the California State Bar, Ms. Ellis is a member of the American Bar Association (Labor and Employment Law and Torts and Insurance Practice sections), the Defense Research Institute (Employment Law Committee), and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
